Tim Powell

“Belief in yourself and perseverance can enable you to reach whatever goals you set.”

Coming from an athletic background that included soccer and lacrosse, Tim Powell was used to his share of hard knocks.

But it took a brush with death (a three-day diabetic coma before his diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes) to make him realize he could undergo a drastic lifestyle change, but continue to enjoy the talent and success that made him an elite-level cyclist.

Today, his is passion for cycling extends to mentoring young riders, passing along his experience and messages of encouragement, especially to those with Type 1 diabetes.

“I hope I can help show that there’s no need to be held back,” Powell said. “Don't make diabetes a limitation. You can do anything you want.”

Career Highlight

“I’ve been racing for more than 20 years, but being a part of Team Type 1 in 2008 will be the highlight of my cycling career.”
