Matt Brooks

“I’m looking forward to building on success, taking the team to the next level, and inspiring even more people with diabetes.”

Much like Team Type 1 co-founders Phil Southerland and Joe Eldridge, Matt Brooks hopes to become a role model – on and off the bike.

“I want to share my story with other diabetics,” Brooks says. “This team is showing people that if you use these tools that are out there the right way, you can live a normal life.”

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 8, Brooks didn’t let it stop him from enjoying sports like soccer and swimming. But when his knees starting going bad, his doctors suggested he take up cycling. After stumbling across news of Team Type 1 on the Internet in 2006, he met Southerland last year and landed a spot on the team in 2007.

His main goal is to help Team Type 1 capture a third consecutive corporate team title and better last year’s record time.
